Why Maori Radio
- Results from Massey University’s last Maori Radio survey show that 53% of the Maori population listen to Maori radio. This translates to approx 279,965 Maori listeners nationwide.
- Maori Radio caters for the whole whanau, providing various functions including community/information, entertainment, and education.
- Of particular importance to many listeners is the broadcast of linguistic features unique to their region; dialect and style, words and proverbs, idioms and phrases.
- A number of stations overlap allowing access to more than one station. The major determining factor in deciding which station listeners in these areas tune into is tribal affiliation.
- The majority of Maori Radio listeners are not fluent in Te Reo Maori. Maori Radio, therefore, caters for a range of competency levels and incorporates programming in both Maori and English.

Feature Film Development Funding

Te Paepae Ataata Charitable Trust is currently inviting applications for funding from Maori writers and film-makers to write and develop feature films.
The closing date for applications is Sunday 31st January 2010. Further application rounds will be held in April, July and October of this year.
Applicants may apply for funding towards the cost of a mentor or other third party additional costs to assist in the development of a project. The level of funding will be determined by Te Paepae Ataata.
The Paepae are Ainsley Gardiner, Rawiri Paratene, Tainui Stephens, Merata Mita, and Kathryn Akuhata-Brown.

Te Paepae Ataata is an Incorporated Charitable Trust that has been operating since 2008. The purposes of Te Paepae Ataata are to:

Maori Television Honours Sir Howard Morrison

Maori Television will pay tribute to renowned New Zealand musician and entertainer Sir Howard Morrison with special television coverage on the day of his Rotorua tangihanga - Tuesday 29th September 2009.
A live broadcast from Te Papaiouru Marae at Ohinemutu will go to air from 9am to 1pm, and will be followed by the channel's three part documentary series - "Sir Howard Morrison: He Kotuku Rerenga Tahi" - which premiered in December 2008. Two of the three hour-long episodes will screen from 1pm to 3pm with the third and final part at 8.30pm. Maori TV's daily news programme "Te Kaea" will also have special coverage at 7.30pm (and with English subtitles at 11pm).

National Māori Flag Consultation

Feedback is being sought to identify a preferred national Māori flag to represent Māori, and occasions on which a national Māori flag should be flown.
Twenty-one consultation hui have been held throughout the country to ensure feedback is received from individuals and communities. This year Māori Language Week is being held from 27 July to 2 August 2009, and the theme is "Te Reo i te Hapori" - "Māori Language in the Community". Māori Language Week is a great opportunity for all New Zealanders to celebrate Te Reo Māori and "give it a go" to learn and use more Māori phrases every day.

Kaumātua Kapa Haka at Te Papa 11-12 July 2009

Kaumātua kapa haka groups from around the North Island will perform classic waiata on stage in Wellington on 11-12 July 2009 at Te Papa to close its Matariki Festival.
Sing along to popular tunes by iconic composers such as Tuini Ngawai, Sir Apirana Ngata and Kohine Ponika, and witness the grace, elegance and humour of some of the country's most seasoned performers. Entry is free.

Our Logo
Maori Media Network’s logo is a contemporary representation of the Putaatara (conch shell), historically used as a communication device among Maori.
The image was designed to depict both kotahitanga (unity) as well as individuality and diversity of Iwi.
This forms from the centre of the koru, flowing out to the different paths or frequencies. The subtle image of the fern can also be seen.
Natural colours of the sea and earth have been chosen as essential elements which bind the whenua (land).
